The Stroud Vintage Transport and Engine Club (SVTEC)

The Gloucestershire Vintage and Country Extravaganza is organised and run by the Stroud Vintage Transport and Engine Club (SVTEC). The club hopes you will find the show both entertaining and informative. The club runs a programme of indoor meetings during the autumn and winter months and the new season starts on Monday 14th September at 7:30pm. SVTEC members enjoy free admission to those meetings, so why not join us?

Meetings regularly feature trains, buses, traction engines, canals, tractors, commercial vehicles, aircraft, shipping and industrial archaeology; in fact anything involving vintage transport or old machinery is likely to be covered at some point.

Photographers whose work features regularly in the preservation press feature prominently in the programme. In recent years, club members have enjoyed slide shows from many of the best photographers working in the field of preservation today.

The club organises a road run for classic vehicles in April and the “Sharpness Classic Vehicle Gathering” in August.

The club runs visits to places of interest to its members. Transport and admission charges are kept as low as possible and travel is often by vintage bus or coach. Recent destinations include Stanway Watermill near Toddington, the Cheltenham Society of Model Engineers miniature railway and the Stroudwater Textile Trust’s weaving shed in Nailsworth.

The club owns a single cylinder horizontal steam engine built by George Waller & Son of Stroud during the 1920s. It was used in a gas works and was displayed in Stroud’s Merrywalks Shopping Centre for many years. Club members exhibit it at a small number of local events throughout the year, running it on compressed air. The Waller support team is always looking for new members.

Members are kept informed of club events via the monthly Newsletter, which always features photographs and articles of interest to the membership, as well as news of club activities. Annual membership of the SVTEC is only £15 per household, so why not join us? Follow this link to purchase membership.
